Born in May 1910, Albert was the only son of John and Laura Fox. The family lived at Jowett Farm on Whiteley Lane, firstly with Albert’s grandparents, James and Mary Fox, but both grandparents died while Albert was quite young: James in 1916 and Mary two years later. Thereafter Albert and his family continued to live in Jowett House.

We don’t know which school Fox went to and the records have very few references to him. In the summer of 1939 and now a company secretary (although no detail as to the company is given), he married Janet Colton in Sheffield and they set up their home on Ashbury Drive at Norton. Their Daughter, Jean, was born in the summer of 1940.

On 5th May 1943 Pilot Officer Fox was the navigator of an Anson based in Gloucestershire. During a night navigation exercise, the plane crashed into a hill at Brockley about 5 miles away from the base. All the crew were killed.

Albert Reginald Fox is buried in Fulwood Graveyard and commemorated on the memorial on the south porch of the church.
